Fairbanks, Alaska in January

"The mean temperature in Fairbanks this January of -9.0 degrees F was just a few tenths of a degree above normal, however the mean daily temperature departures ranged from +40 degrees F to -34 degrees F. The high for the month of 33 degrees F was reported on the 6th and the low of -47 degrees F occurred on the 12th. There were 5 days with a low temperature at or below -40 degrees F and ice fog blanketed the area during the second week of the month. The precipitation total was high with 17.8 inches of snowfall, 7.2 inches more than normal, and 1.17 inches of water equivalent precipitation, over twice the normal amount."
